ODU stifles Western Kentucky

- Staff, wire reports

The Old Dominion women were angry after a home loss, and their response showed their resilience.

Aziah Hudson netted 22 points, while Iggy Allen had 16 points and 14 rebounds Saturday as ODU breezed past Western Kentucky 75-55 on Senior Day at Chartway Arena. Amari Young added 12 points, six rebounds and three assists for ODU, which took leads of 11-0 and 22-5 in the first quarter.

Hudson was 8 of 9 from the field, including 4 of 5 from 3-point territory.

The Monarchs (20-6, 10-4 Conference USA), who were coming off Thursday’s 64-48 defeat to Marshall, were ferocious on defense against the Hilltoppers (17-9, 10-5) in the first quarter. WKU didn’t score for the game’s first 3:27, and ODU harassed the visitors into 33.3% (19 of 57) shooting, including 2 of 16 from 3-point range. The Hilltoppers hit just 15 of 29 free throws compared to the Monarchs’ 13 of 16.

ODU will hope to carry that momentum to Boca Raton for Thursday’s 6 p.m. game against Florida Atlantic.
