Late rally sends FC past Cox

Dylan Northup delivered the walk-off hit that scored Jack Stephens to cap a three-run seventh inning as No. 2 First Colonial rallied to edge No. 11 Cox 3-2 Friday in a high school baseball game.

William Wian (1-0) struck out five in three innings of relief to earn the win.

Cox scored in the third and fifth innings to hold a 2-0 lead. Michael Irby and Joseph Munitz tallied the RBIs.

Northup finished 2 for 4, while Logan Stein and Jerry Barnes also drove in runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Grassfield boys soccer comes up big again

Heinrich Von Schlichtin­g scored the winning overtime goal, assisted by Jack Kaupas, as No. 14 Grassfield slipped past No. 11 Ocean Lakes 2-1.

Von Schlichtin­g assisted on Wyatt Fontaine’s first goal as the Grizzlies earned a second straight win over Beach District competitio­n — they beat No. 1 Cox 3-1 on Tuesday.

Kayden Sawyer scored for Ocean Lakes.

Baseball

Tanner Schaedel went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs as No. 5 Cape Henry beat No. 8 Hickory 8-2. Cooper Angilly added two RBIs while Josh Holland and Andrew Hart scored two runs apiece.

Bailey Matela threw five scoreless innings with nine strikeouts as No. 3 Greenbrier Christian beat High Point Christian of North Carolina 11-4. Maison Nance had two hits and five RBIs.

Softball

Emilee Hoskins hit a go-ahead two-run double in the sixth inning, Tegan Gabrielse struck out 12 and No. 3 Hickory beat John A. Holmes

of Edenton, North Carolina, 8-5.

Parker Rowden recorded 17 strikeouts in a two-hitter as No. 14 Great Bridge beat Landstown 9-0. Rowden also had two hits and two RBIs while Kylie Swanson drove in three runs.

Kailey Bryant went 3 for 3 with four RBIs and hit her second home run of the year as No. 7 Greenbrier Christian shut out Fredericks­burg Christian 10-0.

JJ DeSarro went 3 for 4 with a grand slam and five RBIs to lead

Green Run past Salem 14-4. Akhi Jenkins also drove in five runs while Emily Rawls went 4 for 4 with three RBIs.

Bri Brooks went 3 for 4 with three RBIs as Tabb beat York 5-1 in the Bay Rivers District. Mika Hilburger was 3 for 4 with two runs while Jordan Brown and Emily Angel had two hits apiece.

Boys soccer

Lucas White and James

Burton each scored a goal as Princess Anne knocked off No. 9 Kecoughtan 2-0 in a non-district game.

Ayden Chance scored the lone goal as Nansemond River edged Maury 1-0. Mason Yeamans recorded the shutout.

Girls soccer

Stori Maybank recorded a hat trick as Oscar Smith blanked Salem 3-0.

Girls lacrosse

Kendall Coss and Josie Mazzeo totaled 11 goals and had 11 draw controls apiece as Catholic posted a 21-16 victory over Norfolk Academy.

Girls tennis

Christina Baxter cruised 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and teamed with Valentina Crespo to win 8-0 at No. 1 doubles as Tabb beat York 6-3.
