Shirley Baker Samuel, 84, of Toano, VA passed away on March 30, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Jefferson Samuel; brother, Gary Baker; parents, Gary Eustace Baker and Nealy Baker; and in-laws, Walter and Blanche Samuel. Shirley was in the first graduating class of James Blair High School and the first Homecoming Queen. She then worked in retail for many years until retiring at the age of 77. She loved spending time with all of her family and grandchild­ren, and enjoyed traveling with her close friends. She loved working in her garden and in the flower beds. She would often go antiquing and was very creative. She could decorate any space. She was very caring and loving to everyone that she met.

Shirley is survived by her children, Nikki Samuel Hogge (Tommy), Thomas Walter Samuel (Shay), and Ginger Samuel Thompson (Scotty); special friend of 30 years, David Jenson and his children: Sherl (Melvin), Yvonne (Steve), Allen, and Ashley (Dan); grandchild­ren, Bubby Hogge, Jacob Hogge, Amy Dunbar (Ben), Whitney Auerbach (Wayne), Caitlin Whisenant (Danny), Avalon Davis, Chloe Thompson, and Camden Thompson; 10 greatgrand­children; sister, Sylvia Allgood (Larry); sister-in-law, Edith Baker; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private service will be held for the family.
