Steven Donald Maurer passed away on March 3, 2022 after a long illness. He was born on February 10, 1949 in Spokane, Washington, the son of Don and Elaine Maurer. Steve graduated from John Rogers High School in 1967, attended Whitworth College, and earned his B.S. from Western Washington University in 1971. Steve met his wife Ellen when they were undergradu­ates, and they married in 1971. Daughter Sarah was born in 1977 and son Jeff in 1980. Steve worked as an outside plant engineer for Pacific Northwest Bell (PNB) telephone, and later in engineerin­g management for PNB. He earned his MS and PhD at the University of Oregon and began his academic career as a Professor of Management in the college of business at the University of Kentucky. He was also a Professor of Management at Washington State University, and completed his career at Old Dominion University, achieving tenure and full professor status. Steve published numerous articles in academic journals, including the Academy of Management Journal, and was a peer reviewer for that publicatio­n. He spent time in Hong Kong as a visiting scholar at both the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, and at the Hong Kong Polytechni­c University. Throughout his life Steve was involved in a number of service organizati­ons, including the Jaycees, United Way Loaned Executive program, as a mentor to University Human Resources majors through SHRM, and as an advisor for SCORE, Senior Corps of Retired Executives. He also conducted seminars for Executive MBA programs and mentored many doctoral students. Steve loved watching sports, especially college football, and enjoyed tennis, pickle ball, boating and waterskiin­g. He was a devoted husband and proud father and grandfathe­r. He was predecease­d by his parents and his brother Rand Maurer. Steve is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ellen Taylor Maurer, daughter Sarah Maurer Raison, son Jeff Maurer (Lauren Alpert Maurer) and his two grandsons, Jack and Teddy Raison.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 9 at 11:00 am at Williamsbu­rg Presbyteri­an Church, 215 Richmond Rd., Williamsbu­rg, Virginia 23188. Reception to follow at the church.
