Robert H. Arnold

-

Robert H. Arnold, 92, died on May 8, 2022 from complications of Parkinson's Disease. He was

born and raised in Sharon, PA, and received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University), and an MBA from Syracuse University. While a

student at Carnegie Tech, he met the love of his life, Laura, and they recently celebrated 70 years of their happy marriage together. During the Korean War, he served in the United States Navy, after which he used his engineering skills as an employee of Carrier Air Conditioning Corporation in Syracuse, NY. When he retired after 30 years of service, he was Director of Customer Operations for the Parts and Services Division of Carrier.

For the next chapter in his life, he moved to Williamsburg, VA where his “fun” job as an historical interpreter for Colonial Williamsburg introduced him to new friends and the southern way of life. He played golf as often as possible locally at Williamsburg Golf Club and at the Golden Horseshoe's Spotswood Course. He enjoyed volunteering as a Marshal at Kingsmill's Championship Tournaments and frequently sampled other courses when their travels in retirement took them to England, Scotland, Florida and his all-time favorite, Wailea Course in Maui, Hawaii.

His joy in discovering the Outer Banks of North Carolina provided him with many years of happy beach vacations with his family. His goal in life was always to love and provide for “his girls” while serving as a role model for them with his quiet faith in God. He was a gentle, kind man who also will be remembered for his courage in facing the disease over which he had no control.

He is survived by his wife, Laura, two daughters,

Carol Hollenbeck (Grant) of Mechanicsvlle, VA and Jeanne Snyder (Gerry) of Fayetteville, AR, and one very special grandson, Austin Mackenzie Snyder of Seattle, WA. A service honoring his life will take place on Wednesday, May 18, at 1:00 p.m. at Bruton Parish Church, the parish he served as an usher and as a faithful member.

Gifts in memory of his friendship may be made to Bruton Parish Church, P.O. Box 3520, Williamsburg, VA 23187-3520, or Health & Rehabilitation Center Capital Projects Fund at Williamsburg Landing, 5700 Williamsburg Landing Drive, Williamsburg, VA 23185 in honor of the many caregivers whose concern for him gave him a peaceful end to the life he loved.
