VIRGINIA BEACH — Green Run absorbed Salem’s best punch, but the undefeated Stallions remain in the playoffs.

Kevin White threw two touchdown passes and ran for another as Green Run shook off stingy Salem 21-13 in the Class 5 Region A semifinals Friday night.

Green Run (12-0) will host Kempsville for the region championship next week.

“A win’s a win,” Green Run coach Brandon Williams said, “especially when you win and advance in the playoffs. We knew this team would come play us hard, which we’re gonna get from here on out, so we gotta be prepared for next week.”

The Green Run sideline was stunned when Salem deferred the opening kickoff and rightfully so.

White engineered a 10-play, 74-yard drive, capped by his 4-yard run, for the quick lead.

But the SunDevils (8-4) had a game plan.

Behind their two backs, Zacari Rogers and Ravon Moore, Salem equalized with a 12-play, 61-yard drive, but its next drive offered the haymaker.

Rogers broke free down the left sideline for a 93-yard touchdown that silenced the home crowd.

“We just had to stick together,” White said. “We knew it was gonna be a tough-fought game throughout the whole day.”

White tossed an 11-yard TD to Jayden Anderson on fourth and 6 to pull the Stallions in front 14-13 before halftime.

Salem’s 164 first-half rushing yards were a focal point of the halftime talk and the Stallions’ sideline erupted when they halted Salem’s fake punt one yard short to start the third quarter. Salem had just 34 yards on the ground in the second half.

“Staying our course,” Williams said. “We knew exactly what they were gonna run. It’s no secret. Everybody thinks they can run on us, so we made some minor adjustments and made some stops.”

On the next play, White uncorked a 35-yard touchdown pass to Dyshaun Newby to extend the lead to 21-13, where it would remain.

“He’s a blessing,” Williams said of White. “We’re lucky to have him. The sky’s the limit for that kid and I’m looking forward to the rest of this run with him.”

White, who transferred from Menchville before the season, has commanded the Stallions’ high-flying offense with four viable receiving threats: Keylen Adams, Newby, Anderson and Tasean Young-Stieff.

“It’s great knowing all four of them are athletes,” White said. “They can make any catch. They can run any route. All four of them are fast. It’s great.”

Despite the 21 points — Green Run’s lowest output of the season — Williams gushed over the talent that gets to play another week.

“I couldn’t have created a better team on Madden,” Williams said, referring to the NFL video game. “We’re still going. We’re not finished yet.”
