Catherine "Kitty" Fay

- Please sign guestbook at dailypress.com/obituaries

“Kitty” Fay, 92, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on December 13, 2022. Born in 1930 in Norfolk, VA, Kitty grew up in Newport News with five siblings and was a 1948 graduate of Newport News High School.

In 1949, Kitty married her high school sweetheart, James Fay. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage until Jim's passing in 1999. Together they raised four children.

Known for a life dedicated to family, church, and community, for many years she was an active volunteer with Parkview Little League, American Legion Post 25 Baseball, Y-teens, Newport News and Warwick High Schools, and served as an election official.

An active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hampton, Kitty served on many committees, worked with the RCIA Candidate program, the Altar Guild, and the Food Bank. She delivered food to the migrant workers on the Eastern Shore and communion to the sick.

Kitty's best friend for 70 years was her sisterin-law, Helen Fay Bradley, until Helen's passing in 2013. People often mistook them for sisters because of their close bond.

After Jim's death, Kitty traveled to 16 countries with Immaculate Conception Church members and her close friend Sylvia Guilford. She also traveled often with her family.

She was much loved by her children and their spouses, Catherine Williams, JoAnne Stevens and husband Larry, Theresa Smith, and James Fay III; her six grandchildren, Danny Stevens (Pam), Amy Legg (Jason), Michael Stevens (Jennifer), Kevin Williams (Melanie), Ryan Smith (Chrissy), and David Smith; and eight great-grandchildren, Claudia, Nathan, Rachel, Tucker, Connor, Declan, Emmalyn, and Rock. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including Tony Valentine and Patrick Bradley. Kitty was a very open and outgoing lady who left behind many friends including her 80th Street neighbors and all her friends at Somerset at Towne Center.

Kitty's family was her greatest source of pride. In her memory, Kitty asks that you gather today with your family for love and fun. Time is so precious. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 20 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will be private at a later date.

Donations may be made to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Food Pantry, 2150 Cunningham Drive, Hampton, VA 23666 or to Church of the Sacred Heart, 520 Graydon Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23507.
