No. 8 Indiana turns back Kennesaw State

Tamar Bates scored 19 points, Jalen Hood-Schifino added 18 and No. 18 Indiana rallied past Kennesaw State 69-55 Friday night in Bloomingto­n.

The Owls (8-5), from Georgia, led the Hoosiers (10-3) by as many as eight in the first half. The game was tied at 43 with 9:49 remaining when Miller Kopp hit a 3-pointer and Bates made another to push Indiana ahead to stay.

Hood-Schifino scored seven points down the stretch as the Hoosiers pulled away. He and Bates combined to make 9 of 12 shots in the second half.

Kasen Jennings led the Owls with 11 points. Indiana was without leading scorer Trayce Jackson-Davis for the second straight game for what the school said were precaution­ary reasons.

Pepperdine 81, George Washington 70: Maxwell Lewis scored 22 points to lead five Waves in double figures, Jevon Porter posted a double-double and Pepperdine won at the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu.

Lewis sank 9 of 13 shots with three 3-pointers for the Waves (7-6). Porter finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds.

James Bishop made half of his 20 shots and scored 22 to pace the Colonials (6-6). Pepperdine will play Iona for fifth place, and GW will meet Seattle for seventh.

Also: Hawaii advanced to the Diamond Head Classic championsh­ip game for the first time in 11 tries, setting up a clash tonight against SMU.

Hawaii (8-3) defeated Washington State 62-51 as Samuta Avea scored 19 points. TJ Bamba led the Cougars (5-7) with 19 points on 6-of-18 shooting.

SMU (5-7) beat Utah State 77-74 as Zhuric Phelps scored 19 points and Zach Nutall hit a big 3-pointer in the final minute. Sean Bairstow and Max Shulga paced the Aggies (10-2) with 18 points apiece.
