Happy 50th Anniversary, Richard & Peggy Krapf!!
Richard Krapf and Peggy Cannon met in the fifth grade, while attending elementary school in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. They ended up becoming good friends throughout their school days, and even attended their Senior Prom together (to this day they maintain that it was “just as friends”).
In June of 1972, Hurricane Agnes made landfall in the United States and a historic flood devastated their hometown of Wilkes-Barre. Putting other plans aside, they opted to remain at home that summer in order to help their families rebuild. Six months later, on December 27th, 1972, they were married underneath the basketball hoop in the gymnasium of the local church.
The last 50 years have been full of military assignments, travel, house renovations, and multiple road trips to Pennsylvania to visit family. They lived in Mississippi, California, Virginia, Germany, Ohio, and New York before finding their way back to Virginia and, in 1993, decided to make Toano their permanent home.
They’ve found themselves bitten by the travel bug over the last few years, and have enjoyed great vacations in Italy, France, Spain and Portugal, as well as multiple trips to Hawaii, with their good friends and travel partners Joan and Steve Alderman.
Rich and Peggy have two children; Michael and Emily. Michael works as a Technical Director at a television station in D.C., and Emily is a Human Resources Recruiter in Richmond. They’re thrilled that their kids are just a quick drive or train ride away.
Rich and Peggy have made a lasting impact on their community over the years. After retiring from Colonial Williamsburg, Rich remains an active member of the James City County Planning Commission and is very involved with the Toano Historical Society. Peggy runs her own successful business, Heart’s Ease Landscape & Garden Design, which keeps her very busy.
Congratulations to Rich & Peggy on 50 wonderful years of marriage, and we wish them many years of happiness to come!
