UVA connects on 11 of 22 3-pointers, sinks Seminoles

Armaan Franklin scored 20 points and Ben Vander Plas added 15 points and seven rebounds as No. 13 Virginia stayed in control from the opening minutes and defeated Florida State 67-58 on Saturday in Tallahasse­e.

Franklin, a senior guard, averages 11.4 points per game, but had 13 points by halftime as Virginia cruised to its third straight win. The Indiana transfer is 50 points shy of 1,000 for his career.

The Cavaliers (13-3, 5-2) made 11 of 22 3-pointers, the fifth time in 16 games they have connected on 10 or more from beyond the arc. Florida State (5-13, 3-4) has struggled with its perimeter defense, giving up 14 3s in a loss at Wake Forest on Wednesday.

Matthew Cleveland recorded a double-double for the seventh straight game, a feat no Seminole has achieved since Reggie Royals in the 1971-72 season. He had a basket in the final minute to finish with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Freshman forward Cameron Corhen added 15 points for the Seminoles, who lost at home for the first time in ACC play.

Clemson 72, No. 24 Duke 64: PJ Hall scored 26 points and Brevin Galloway had 17, including a 3-pointer that put Clemson ahead to stay as the Tigers continued their perfect ACC start with a home victory over Duke.

Clemson (15-3), picked to finish 11th in the league before the season began, is now 7-0 in the ACC for the first time in team history. The Tigers beat the Blue Devils (13-5, 4-3) for just the second time in nine games.

Kyle Filipowski, the 7-foot freshman, led Duke with 18 points and 14 rebounds before fouling out in the final minute. Fellow freshman Tyrese Proctor had 17 points for the Blue Devils.

N.C. State 83, No. 16 Miami 81, OT: Ernest Ross scored on a go-ahead putback in traffic with 33 seconds left in overtime for the Wolfpack in Raleigh, giving N.C. State (14-4, 4-3) a split of the season series with the Hurricanes (14-3, 5-2).

The late basket was part of a huge day for Ross, a 6-foot-9 second-year forward. He finished with career highs of 17 points and nine rebounds.

Terquavion Smith scored 20 points to lead the Wolfpack.

Isaiah Wong had 25 points and six rebounds to lead Miami.

North Carolina 80, Louisville 59: Playing on an injured ankle, Armando Bacot recorded a double-double and reserve Dmarco Dunn scored 14 points as visiting North Carolina beat Louisville.

Bacot scored 14 points and had 16 rebounds and R.J. Davis and Puff Johnson scored 12 apiece for the Tar Heels (12-6, 4-3). The Tar Heels’ bench contribute­d 26 points to the win effort.

El Ellis scored 22 points for Louisville (2-16, 0-7) which hasn’t won since Dec. 17.

Pittsburgh 71, Georgia Tech 60:

Nike Sibande came off the bench to score a season-high 21 points and grab six rebounds to help Pittsburgh hold off Georgia Tech in Atlanta.

Jamarius Burton finished with 19 points, going 7 for 7 from the line, for the Panthers (12-6, 5-2).

Deivon Smith put up a double-double to lead Georgia Tech (8-9, 1-6) with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
