No. 23 Miami hands No. 20 Clemson its second straight conference loss

Pack and Wong boost Hurricanes past Tigers

Nijel Pack scored 20 points and Isaiah Wong 15 as No. 23 Miami used a second-half burst to hold off No. 20 Clemson 78-74 Saturday in South Carolina.

Wong and Pack each hit 3-pointers right after halftime for the Hurricanes (18-5, 9-4), who used a 21-9 run to open a 56-44 lead with 11:10 to play.

The Tigers cut the deficit to 76-74 on Alex Hemenway’s 3-pointer with nine-tenths of a second to play. Pack was fouled on the inbounds and calmly made two foul shots to finish the victory.

Clemson (18-6, 10-3) lost its second straight game after opening ACC play 10-1.

The Hurricanes stepped up their offense after halftime. Pack had 14 of his points in the final half while Wong had 11 points over the final 20 minutes. Miami hit six of its nine 3-pointers in that half.

Wake Forest 81, Notre Dame 64:

Damari Monsanto scored a career-high 28 points, making eight 3-pointers — also a career high — and visiting Wake Forest (15-9, 7-6) snapped a four-game losing streak by beating the Irish (10-13, 2-10). Monsanto made 8 of 13 from distance and also grabbed seven rebounds.

Wake Forest hit on 6 of 7 3-pointers in the first 5:02 of the second half, building a 47-34 lead when Daivien Williamson hit a 3-pointer.

N.C. State 72, Georgia Tech 64:

D.J. Burns Jr. scored 24

points, Terquavion Smith distribute­d 10 assists and North Carolina State (19-5, 9-5) won a back-and-forth contest in Raleigh, extending its winning streak to four.

Burns made two foul shots, Casey Morsell made a 3-pointer 28 seconds later with 2:06 to go for a 65-61 lead, and N.C. State led for the remainder. Miles Kelly scored 17 for the Yellow Jackets (8-16, 1-13), who have lost nine consecutiv­e games.

Florida State 81, Louisville 78: Matt Cleveland drove the baseline

for a layup with 1:32 left to allow Florida State (8-16, 6-7) to fend off a late 17-2 run by Louisville (3-20, 1-11) to escape with a road victory.

Cameron Corhen led five Seminoles players in double figures with 16 points.

Syracuse 77, Boston College 68: Jesse Edwards had 27 points on 12-of-15 shooting and Joe Girard III added 18 points to help the visiting Orange (14-10, 7-6 ACC) defeat the Eagles (11-13, 5-8).

Quinten Post led BC with 18 points.
