Claudia Jane Young

Claudia Young, age 70, went on to a place of peace on March 6,2023 at her home in Yorktown, Virginia. Claudia was born in Norfolk Virginia. She lived several early years in Scotland while her father was stationed at Dunoon Submarine Base. The family returned to Norfolk where she graduated from Norview High School. Claudia retired in 2004 as a Captain of the Virginia Port Authority Police Department. She was reported to be the first female achieving rank of Captain in law enforcement in Virginia. Upon retirement she worked part time for T Parker Host until 2020.

Claudia was an avid volunteer in her community. She worked with the Norfolk Rape Crisis Line and became a Master Gardener. After moving to Yorktown with her partner, Claudia volunteered with Meals on Wheels and often spoke of the love she had for those she visited.

Claudia spent her last five years valiantly living with a cancer diagnosis. She is preceded in death by her parents, Marian and Claude Mullineaux, sisters Hillary McGovern (Graham), Marilyn Rogers (Jim) and son Jason (age 4 years old). She is survived by her partner, Jane Moreland, daughters Lindsay Young (Jason), Gillian Peterfeso and six grandchildren, Maeve, Morgan, Moses, Rowan, Sarah, Willa and her two beloved dogs, Rory and Lily.

The family would like to thank Virginia Oncology, Dr. Tian, and Jennifer Caswell and their many staff and nurses, along with the doctors and staff at the Hampton Proton Center. Additional thanks to the staff at Amedisys Hospice. Please join her family at services to be conducted on April 1, 2023 at 11am at Star of the Sea Church in Virginia Beach, VA.
