- Please sign guestbook at dailypress.com/obituaries

Samuel Dee Honeycutt, Jr., “Jake”, of Seaford, VA, went to be with the Lord and his many loved ones on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, just 7 days before his 87th birthday.

Born in Hampton, VA, Jake spent most of his life in York County and graduated from York High School in 1955. He was very proud to say he was in York High's first graduating class. After graduation, Jake went to work at C&P Telephone Company and retired in 1991 from Bell Atlantic, now Verizon, after 30 years of service. He also owned Honeycutt's Mobile Marine Business for 28 years and enjoyed working on Mercury MerCruisers for local boat owners. Jake enjoyed many wonderful friends through the years who appreciated his sense of humor and generous heart. He was always a fair and honest man, never wanting to charge much money for his services – he just liked helping people. He was very well thought of in his community, always had a good name, and was respected by all. Jake never met a stranger. He enjoyed jokes and the simple things in life. Jake was preceded in death by his beloved son, Samuel Honeycutt, III, his parents Samuel D. Honeycutt, Sr., and Rose Hill Honeycutt, and his brothers Harry Wayne Honeycutt, Freddy Honeycutt, and Eddy Ray Honeycutt.

Jake is survived by his loving wife Nancy Rowe Honeycutt. When they met at the York Drive In, Jake asked her to come talk to him for a minute, and then he said, “Ok, a minute's up, you can go now.” That one minute turned into 65 years of happiness and amusement. Jake always said Nancy was the love of his life, and he was hers. Jake is also survived by his nieces, Brenda H. Mills, Cindy H. Fulgham, his nephew Harry Wayne Honeycutt, and several nieces, nephews and cousins, his sister-in-law Susan M. Rowe, niece Autumn Oestreicher, and great niece Isis Lewis. Jake was also blessed by some wonderful neighbors who went above and beyond to help us in need: Lewis and Sam Stratton, Nick and Debbie Kincaid, Frank Thrift, Susan Shaw, and Paul and Brenda Hogge, Emily Brown, and sister-in-law Susan M. Rowe.
