Nansemond River wins region field hockey title

Nansemond River 10, Woodside 0:
Brayden Johnston scored four goals and had one assist, while Jordan White scored two goals as the host Warriors routed the Wolverines. Anyia Woods scored a goal and had three assists, Caydence Parker scored a goal and had two assists, and Caitlin Outlaw and Rylee Binley scored a goal apiece.
Both teams move on to the state quarterfinals Tuesday. Woodside will visit First Colonial, and Cox will go to Nansemond River.
TCIS championship
Norfolk Academy 12, Catholic 0:
Brooke Bettencourt, who was named the tournament MVP in the Bulldogs’ romp, joined Lizzie Adams in scoring hat tricks as their team continued to compete for the nation’s top ranking. Joji Purdy and Shelby Beverly scored twice each, and Gretchen Scott added a goal. The Bulldogs and Crusaders, who were in their first TCIS final in more than a decade, will await their VISAA tournament pairings.

Norfolk Academy d. Paul VI 2-2 (3-0 in penalty kicks):
Andrew Kim scored both goals in the second half for the fifth-seeded Bulldogs, who won a tiebreaker against a Northern Virginia team in a penalty shootout as Van Deans made two saves in it. Richard Hope, Lucas Varverud and Lee Acra converted their penalty kicks. Norfolk Academy advanced to face fourth-seeded St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes in a quarterfinal Monday in Northern Virginia.
Cape Henry Collegiate 1, Benedictine 0:
A first-half goal in Virginia Beach proved decisive for the sixth-seeded Dolphins against the 11th-seeded, Richmond-area Cadets. Cape Henry will travel to Richmond to take on No. 3 St. Christopher’s in a quarterfinal Monday.

Hampton Roads Academy 2, Virginia Episcopal 1:
The eighth-seeded Navigators beat a ninth-seeded Lynchburg team in Newport News, giving HRA a trip to Manassas to face top-seeded Seton on Monday. Nathan Seeley scored off a Grayson Lopez assist, and Charlie Overman netted HRA’s other goal from a Seeley assist.
Norfolk Collegiate 4, Fredericksburg Christian 0:
The seventh-seeded Oaks posted a home shutout and will head to the Middle Peninsula to play second-seeded Christchurch in a quarterfinal Monday. Two goals from Jayden Walker and one each from Joey Byrne and Ben Creekmore led Norfolk Collegiate.
Division III quarterfinal
Walsingham Academy d. Wakefield School 0-0 (4-3 in penalty kicks):
The Trojans survived a challenge from the Owls of Northern Virginia in Williamsburg by winning a penalty shootout after scoreless play. Charlie Patterson, Carter Perry, Will Patterson and Danny Vantran made their spot kicks, and goalkeeper Devin Hayes gained the victory.
Walsingham moved into a semifinal against third-seeded Veritas School of Richmond at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. That match will be contested at Richmond’s City Stadium.
