McCloud’s career day keeps JMU undefeated

Jordan McCloud threw for a career-high 457 yards and four touchdowns, and AP No. 21 James Madison overcame a slow start and beat Connecticu­t 44-6 on Saturday in Harrisonbu­rg, the Dukes’ 13th consecutiv­e win dating to last season.

McCloud connected with Reggie Brown on scoring throws of 80 and 55 yards, Zach Helton from 21 yards and Phoenix Sproles from 5 yards as the Dukes (10-0) pulled away after leading just 10-3 at halftime.

The Huskies (1-9) lost their fourth straight and third this season to a ranked team.

McCloud finished 33 for 37 while going over 400 passing yards for the third time this season. Elijah Sarratt caught 13 passes for 160 yards and Brown caught nine for 202, the first receiver in school history to go over 200 yards in a game.

Kyle Wickersham threw for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead Richmond (7-3, 6-1) to a win over Elon (5-5, 5-2) in a battle of Coastal Athletic Associatio­n contenders in Richmond.

Carson Jones threw for 226 yards and four touchdowns and FCS No. 2 Furman (9-1, 7-0 Southern Conference) wrapped it up early by beating VMI in Greenville, South Carolina.

Navy 31, UAB 6: Xavier Arline rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown and passed for 94 yards and another score to help Navy (4-5, 3-3 American) snap a two-game slide with a victory over UAB (3-7, 2-4) in Annapolis, Maryland.

Army 17, Holy Cross 14: Tyrell Robinson scored on a 14-yard run, Elo Modozie returned a blocked punt for another touchdown and Army (4-6) defeated Holy Cross (6-4) in West Point, New York.
