Arizona responds well as the new No. 1
Wildcats bash the No. 23 Badgers
Pelle Larsson scored a careerhigh 21 points, Caleb Love added 20, and No. 1 Arizona rolled to a 98-73 home win over No. 23 Wisconsin on Saturday.
The Wildcats were playing as the top team in the country for the first time in nine years. They looked comfortable in their new role, using a 25-8 run to end the first half and take a 17-point halftime lead.
John Blackwell led Wisconsin with 17 points, but the Badgers’ six-game winning streak ended.
No. 3 Houston 89, Jackson State 55:
Emanuel Sharp scored a career-high 25 points, LJ Cryer added 21, and the host Cougars improved to 10-0 for the third time in school history, joining the 201819 and 1967-68 teams. The Tigers fell to 2-7.
No. 5 Connecticut 101, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 63:
Alex Karaban scored a career-high 26 points for the Huskies (9-1), who shot 56% and made 13 3-pointers in a home victory in Storrs. Tristen Newton scored 16 points, Cam Spencer had 15 and Donovan Clingan added 11 points and blocked three shots against the Golden Lions (4-7).
No. 10 Creighton 109, Central Michigan 64: Isaac Traudt, a 6-foot10 Virginia transfer, set career highs with five 3-pointers and 18 points off the bench, and five other Bluejays scored in double figures in Omaha, Nebraska. Creighton (8-1) shot a season-best 65% and scored its most points against a Division I opponent in six years.
Derrick Butler led the Chippewas (3-6) with a career-high 28 points.
No. 12 Texas 77, Houston Christian 50:
Max Abmas scored 16 points and had seven assists, and Virginia transfer Kadin Shedrick had 15 points, three blocks and four of the Longhorns’ 13 steals in Austin. Dillon Mitchell produced his third double-double of the season, 13 points and 12 rebounds, for Texas (7-2).
Marcus Greene led Houston Christian (1-7) with 15 points.
No. 16 Kentucky 81, Penn 66:
Aaron Bradshaw celebrated his homecoming with 17 points and 11 rebounds and Rob Dillingham also scored 17 points for the Wildcats (7-2) at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. They had the advantage in fan support, though Penn (6-5) is just four miles from the NBA 76ers’ arena.
Clark Slajchert led the Quakers with 17 points.
Kentucky has lots of Philadelphia connections. Justin Edwards is a city native. Bradshaw, DJ Wagner and Kareem Watkins are all from across the Delaware River in Camden, New Jersey.
No. 17 Tennessee 86, No. 20 Illinois 79:
Dalton Knecht scored 21 points to help Tennessee (6-3) rally from a second-half deficit against the Illini (7-2) before a raucous crowd of more than 20,000 Volunteer fans in Knoxville.
Knecht had eight points in a pivotal four-minute stretch in the second half when Tennessee rallied from a four-point deficit to a six-point lead with just more than 13 minutes to play. Illinois was scoreless in that stretch, though Quincy Guerrier and Terrence Shannon scored 22 each.
No. 19 Oklahoma 79, Arkansas 70: Javian McCollum’s 20 points in Tulsa, Oklahoma, led the Sooners (9-0) past the Razorbacks (6-4), who got 13 points from Khalif Battle.
State men
Apprentice 105, Central Penn 56:
The host Builders (7-3) posted their most lopsided victory of the season in the Great Ships Classic in Newport News, beating the Knights (1-10) of Summerdale, Pennsylvania.
Karree Smith was 6 of 8 from the field and scored 15 points for Apprentice. Avin Hawkins added 14 points, Kurij Harrell 13, Adrion Wall 11 and Montrell Jackson 10.
Longwood 62, Delaware State 61: Walyn Napper’s 19 points in Dover, Delaware, helped the Lancers (9-1) escape with their ninth victory in a row. He shot 7 for 8, including 4 for 5 from 3-point range. Martez Robinson led the Hornets (6-7) with 22 points, seven assists and two steals.
Longwood led 61-50 with less than 4 minutes remaining but hit a drought. A 9-0 run got DSU back in the game, though Napper hit 1 of 2 free throws for a 62-59 edge at the 1:14 mark. Deywilk Tavarez’s layup with 26 seconds left made it 62-61, and Napper missed the front end of a one-and-one with 13 seconds to go. Jevin Muniz missed a 3-point try as the clock turned to zeroes.
Florida 87, Richmond 76: The Gators (6-3) handled the Spiders (5-5) at the Orange Bowl Classic in Sunrise, Florida, though UR hit 11 of 22 3-point tries.
Tyrese Samuel had 18 points and 14 rebounds for Florida, and Will Richard had 21 points and seven rebounds.
UR got 17 points apiece from Isaiah Bigelow and Neal Quinn, 16 from Mikkel Tyne and 14 from Jordan King, its top scorer this season.
Grand Canyon 69, Liberty 64: Gabe McGlothan had 21 points and seven rebounds for the Antelopes (8-1) as they edged the Flames (7-3) in Lynchburg.
Zach Cleveland finished with 13 points for Liberty, while Kaden Metheny and Colin Porter each added 12 points and two steals.
Radford 82, N.C. Central 74: Bryan Antoine scored 16 points to help the Highlanders (7-4) beat the visiting Eagles (4-7). Kenyon Giles, a former Oscar Smith High standout, had eight points and five assists for Radford.
Josh Smith scored 19 points for NCCU, which erased a 13-point halftime deficit but never pulled ahead afterward.
American 77, VMI 69: Matt Rogers had 19 points and Elijah Stephens 18 for the Eagles (5-6) against the Keydets (2-8) in Lexington.
Brennan Watkins finished with 20 points for VMI, which also got 11 points and six rebounds from Stephen Olowoniyi.
USC Beaufort 104, Regent 81: The NCAA Division II Sand Sharks (6-1) outplayed the visiting Royals (0-8) in South Carolina.
Darrin Clark scored 21 points and Joakim Marie-Joseph had 12 points and seven rebounds for Regent.
Marcus Overstreet had 20 points and Kobe Shewry 19 for the Sand Sharks, who shot 53.8% (42 of 78) and never trailed.
No. 22 Duke 80, Charlotte 56: Jared McCain scored 14 of his 21 points in the first half as the host Blue Devils (6-3) got rolling again following two losses and a week layoff. McCain, a freshman guard, made three 3-pointers.
Lu’cye Patterson had 14 points for the 49ers, but Charlotte (5-4) suffered its most lopsided defeat under first-year coach Aaron Fearne.
No. 24 Clemson 74, TCU 66: Joe Girard II’s 21 points guided the Tigers (9-0) past the Horned Frogs (7-1) in Toronto at the Hall of Fame Series. Emanuel Miller had 16 points for TCU. A 19-3 surge gave Clemson a 57-42 lead.
Syracuse 80, Georgetown 68: Judah Mintz scored 25 points, JJ Starling had 21 and the Orange (7-3) beat the Hoyas (5-4) by pulling away in the final six minutes in Washington.
Former King’s Fork High star Jayden Epps scored 17 points but was just 1 of 9 on 3-pointers for Georgetown. Supreme Cook added 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Hoyas, who shot 42%.
DePaul 75, Louisville 68: Jeremiah Oden scored 22 points and Chico Carter Jr. scored 14 as DePaul (2-7) ended its five-game losing streak by winning in Chicago. Mike James scored 18 points for Louisville, which trailed 38-22 at halftime and by at least six after that.
South Florida 88, Florida State 72: Selton Miguel scored a seasonhigh 20 points as USF (3-4) ended a three-game slide by winning at the Orange Bowl Classic in Sunrise, Florida, handing the Seminoles (4-4) their third straight loss.
VCU transfer Jamir Watkins scored 15 points for FSU, and Baba Miller had 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Georgia Tech 70, Alabama A&M 49: Kowacie Reeves Jr. scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Yellow Jackets (5-3) against the Hornets (1-7) in Atlanta.
Women
Cheyney 51, Apprentice 46:
The Builders (4-4) fell to the Wolves from Pennsylvania in the Great Ships Classic.
Jada Bryant had 12 points and 13 rebounds and Nyla Jackson scored nine points for Apprentice. Ashawnti Williams had 11 rebounds.
Cheyney took the lead for good in the second quarter and clinched the victory with Alicia Jones’ two free throws with two seconds to go.
St. Mary’s 63, Virginia Wesleyan 49: The Marlins (3-6) led 39-34 entering the fourth quarter in St. Mary’s City, Maryland, but the Seahawks (7-3) outscored them 29-10 in the last 10 minutes.
Mekayla Clarke had 11 points, Maesyn Blaylock eight and Gabrielle Athy seven for VWU.
Amira Whitaker scored 16 to lead St. Mary’s. Her two free throws with 6:57 to go put the Seahawks ahead to stay, 44-43.
USC Beaufort 85, Regent 70: Despite Jabarria Brown’s 35 points and four steals and Kali Murrell’s 19 points, the Royals (3-8) fell to the NCAA Division II Sand Sharks (3-4) in South Carolina.
Janiyah Heyward had 31 points and 13 rebounds for USC Beaufort, and Brielle Bartelt added 23 points.

MEN
Bob Jones 87, Regent 66:
The Royals lost at Bob Jones University (3-3) in Greenville, South Carolina.
Regent got 16 points from Darrin Clark and 12 points and 10 rebounds from Joakim Marie-Joseph. Devin Pope scored 13 points to pace four Bruins in double digits.
Boston College 95, Holy Cross 64:
Jaeden Zackery had 18 points and Quinten Post scored all 12 of his points after halftime and finished with a double-double for the host Eagles (7-3) against the Crusaders (2-8).
Post had 10 rebounds, seven assists and a career-high six steals. Freshman reserve Declan Ryan had 14 points for Holy Cross.
WOMEN
Bob Jones 93, Regent 61:
Despite Kali Murrell’s 18 points, Jabarria Brown’s 15 points, Zandie Smith’s 10 rebounds and Brooke Glisson’s 10 points and nine rebounds, the Royals lost to the Bruins (3-6) in Greenville, South Carolina.
Anna Layne Wylder scored 18 points for Bob Jones, which was 15 of 40 from 3-point range to Regent’s 5 of 22.
