Dan O'Brien
Dan O'Brien, 76, died at home Monday, January 22, 2024 due to complications from congestive heart failure. He was born in Mullins, SC. Dan graduated from Mullins High School in 1966 and joined the U.S. Army to play trombone in the Army Band. When he left the Army, he enrolled in the music department at Campbell College, Buies Creek, NC where he met his wife of over 39 years, Katey. He is predeceased by his parents; and brothers, Jimmy and Eugene. He is survived by his loving wife, Katey Fox O'Brien; and sister, Rose Mary Sullivan of Tavares, FL. During their marriage they enjoyed many trips to Key West and were former members of the ParrotHead Club of Tidewater; attending many Jimmy Buffet concerts. He was a former member of the Chesapeake Wind Ensemble where he played trombone.
Dan is also survived by his sister-in-law, Sharyn Fox and her husband, Bud Curtis and sister-inlaw, Robyn Howell and her husband, Steve. He leaves several nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews, as well as many friends with fond memories. Katey would like to thank the dedicated staff at Amedisys Hospice Care for their care during Dan's last month. Janice, Judy and Amy provided such loving care and assistance, and the company was excellent to work with. Dan was a long-time member of Menchville Baptist Church where a Memorial Service will be conducted by Pastor Jim Weston at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 4, 2024.
