- Please sign guestbook at dailypress.com/obituaries

Dr. Hawes Campbell, III of Gloucester Point, Va. died peacefully on January 18, 2024, after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Candy, his daughter, Loughan and his son, Hank, and two grandsons, Walker and Hatcher, and sister, Sara, and her children. Dr. Campbell was one of those physicians who knew from a very early age that he would spend his life practicing medicine. Always a strong student, he skipped a grade in his early school years. Hawes served as a captain in the Army for the Medical Corps in Korea. He spent the majority of his career practicing as a general practitioner in Yorktown, Va, joining the practice of Drs. Rives Bailey and Ken Joyner, later becoming TPMG. Hawes was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, Va. and he spent his pre-med years at Hampden Sydney College, earning his postgraduate degree at Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Campbell's office hours were when he was awake- always ready to remove an errant fishhook from a young patient or a splinter from a barefoot bather. The Yorktown and Gloucester Point population benefitted from his caring and expertise for many years and remain grateful for his contributions to those communities. There was just something special about being in the hands of the “Doc.” In our loved one's memory, a memorial may be made to The Bowman Fund of The University of Virginia at University of Virginia Medical School Foundation, P.O. Box 37963, Boone, Iowa 50037; The Virginia Institute of Marine Science at Office of University Advancement Gift Administration P. O. Box 1693, Harlan, IA 51593-1993; or the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society at P. O. Box 385, Gloucester, VA 23061. Services are private and under the direction of Hogg Funeral Home & Crematory.
