Ruth Ann Sproul Kelley

Ruth Ann Sproul Kelley passed away peacefully on March 19, 2024. She was born to the late Harvey L and Ruth Renfro Sproul on July 27, 1936 in Williamsburg, KY. Soon after, they moved to Knoxville, TN where Ruth Ann grew up in East Knoxville. She attended Fair Garden Elementary School, East High School and the University of Tennessee. She became a music teacher at Fair Garden Elementary to support her husband Robert Patrick (Pat) Kelley while he finished his degree at U.T. After Pat’s graduation, they moved to Hampton, VA. Pat and Ruth Ann attended Trinity United Methodist Church, NN, VA and she was very active in the music ministry.Ruth Ann is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Robert Patrick Kelley; son Kevin Patrick Kelley and daughter Pamela Celeste Kelley Gatz; three grandsons, Richard Michael Gatz, III, Robert Patrick Gatz and Don Joseph Gatz. Ruth Ann is also survived by two brothers – Harvey and Renfro Sproul and their families; a brother-in-law Tom Kelley and family, seven nieces, eight nephews and 14 great nieces and nephews as well as cousins and other family and dear friends – all of whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law Richard Michael Gatz Jr. She will forever be cherished in our memory and remembered for her loving spirit and friendly nature.There will be a Celebration of Life Service on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at 12 Noon at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton VA 23666, followed by a reception. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be given to Trinity United Methodist Church, 228 29th Street, Newport News, VA 23607
