-

Loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all, James “Al” Brown, age 77, of Hampton Va, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on March 13, 2024. He was born in Birkenhead England in 1946 to Albert and Marie Brown and lived there for a brief time before moving to Hampton Roads as a baby. Al worked for RBI Corp for over 35 years and when he retired, he opened a small business so that he could stay in contact with his customers whom he considered friends. He was a huge sports fan and especially loved his Redskins. He spent his spare time refereeing youth sports in the Hampton Roads area, later serving as commissioner of Peninsula Officials Association. Al met the love of his life Carolyn “Cookie” Brown in high school in 1964. They just celebrated 57 years on 3/11/2024. They went on to have three children Kelly, Brian and Deborah. Al is preceded in death by his parents Albert and Marie Brown, his sister Marian Brown, his Aunt Bertha Roschy and his beloved daughter Kelly Roberts. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Brown, his son Brian Brown (Sherry) and his daughter Deborah Brown. He is also survived by his grandchildren Ashley Kriner, Nick Roberts, Thomas & Jack Brown, Ryan Stone, Mariah Roederer, Morgan Walker (Predist), Mackenzie Brown, Micaela Brown, Megan Johnson, and Halle & Daniel Snyder. He is also survived by his great-granddaughter Samantha Poor. Al will always be remembered for his big smile and the way that he always put others before himself. We’ll always imagine hearing him say “I love you, be safe” one more time. We will all miss him dearly. A memorial service and visitation will be held on March 30th, 1:30pm at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home in Hampton, VA. Please join us as we celebrate the life of James “Al” Brown.
