In Loving Memory of Our Beloved Mother, Herma Amburgey Royals

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to a remarkable soul, our cherished Mom, whose presence brought joy to so many during her 97 years on this Earth. Our lives were filled with her love, support, warmth, and unwavering strength. Herma, a gracious lady filled with compassion and wisdom, departed this world on December 19, 2023, leaving behind an indelible imprint on our hearts and in the lives of all who knew her.

Herma was more than just a mother; she was a guiding light, a source of boundless love, and a pillar of strength. Her positive attitude and nurturing spirit enveloped our family with kindness, her fun-loving nature filled our homes with joy, and her unwavering support provided strength in times of need. Through her devotion to family and countless friends, she instilled in all of us values of a great attitude, kindness, resilience, and compassion, shaping us into the individuals we are today.

Herma's early years were spent in Hindman, Kentucky. In 1942, a 16-year-old Herma moved with her family to Hampton, VA. It was there that she met and married C.R. Royals, Jr., who was born and raised in Hampton.

Herma's professional life started when she was 19 at Langley Air Force Base where she worked as a switchboard operator. She worked there until she and C.R. started a family. In 1982, Herma launched into sales with Mary Kay Cosmetics, swiftly growing her business and becoming a director. Her commitment and unwavering dedication to her Mary Kay family earned her numerous accolades and the respect and love of her peers. Her love knew no bounds—she showered her family and friends with positive energy, offered words of encouragement, and celebrated our triumphs with pride. Whether in moments of joy or adversity, Herma was our number 1 cheerleader, offering unwavering love and guidance, lighting the path forward with her class, grace, and wisdom. She never met a stranger, and we all have memories of her striking up conversations with people no matter where we were—grocery store, ski lift rides, airports, elevator rides—she really had a gift for charming people.

Herma's legacy extends far beyond our family circle. Her generosity knew no bounds, and her selflessness touched the lives of countless others. As a longtime Tidewater resident, she spent countless hours with her friends—whether playing Mahjongg, lunching with her Greetings to You crew, or back in the 70’s with her cherished Gloucester Garden Club. She treasured time with family and friends, offering support to those in need, and extended a helping hand to anyone who crossed her path. Her impact on the world around her is immeasurable, her kindness enduring, and her memory cherished by all whose lives she touched.

As we bid farewell to our beloved mother, we find solace in the countless memories we shared, the lessons she imparted, the love that will forever reside in our hearts—and the 97 wonderful years she was gifted. Though she may no longer walk beside us, her spirit will continue to guide us, her love will continue to inspire us, and her memory will forever be a source of comfort and strength. Rest in eternal peace, Mom. Your love was a gift to those who knew you, especially your five children. We will continue to live life as you taught us, carrying forward your great attitude, your grace, and enduring legacy.
