Voting against Trump
Re “Vote Democrat” (Your Views,
March 25): I agree with the letter writer who argues Republicans need to decide whether they are Americans and vote for President Joe Biden, a Democrat. I am 70 years old and have voted Republican nearly 100% since I became eligible to vote. In the past two presidential elections, based on what I knew then, I held my nose and voted for former President Donald Trump believing him to be the slightly better choice of two lousy selections.
I don’t know if I was right or wrong then, but my opinion of Trump changed from tepid support and tolerance to complete distaste and hatred of all he stands for after his well-documented actions and inactions before, during and after the Jan. 6 riot and the attack on the Capitol to try and stop the electoral vote.
I now consider Trump a threat to democracy and the United States. The list of his political ideas, alleged criminal activities, convictions, lack of morality, belief that laws do not apply to him and other character flaws that are well-known and too numerous to list here bolster my opinion.
I do not consider President Joe Biden a good choice for president, but I will again hold my nose and vote for Biden in the next election if Trump is his rival.
The Republican Party I knew and grew up with no longer exists. It has been hijacked by MAGA politicians with the assistance of fearful Republican representatives who disagree with them but fear losing their political position and power. If Trump is elected, I will vote Democrat in every federal election to try and thwart the political power and dangerous ideas of this vile human being.
