National Museum Day provides the occasion to visit many attractions
A host of regional museums, including a pair of art museums at Colonial Williamsburg, will offer free admission to mark National Museum Day.
Several local museums and historical sites will mark national Museum Day on Saturday with free admission.
Colonial Williamsburg is extending free passes for a week to its DeWitt Wallace Decorative Art Museum and the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum starting Saturday.
Smithsonian Magazine started the one-day event 14 years ago.
Other sites participating on Saturday include Virginia Beach spots: Thoroughgood House, the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, Francis Land House and Cape Henry Lighthouse. The lighthouse is in the middle of a construction project and climbing it during the tour is not available. However, walking tours of Cape Henry National Park and daily dune talks are continuing.
Other local museums and educational sites include the Hampton History Museum, the Hermitage Museum and Gardens in Norfolk, and Bacon’s Castle in Surry. The Chrysler Museum in Norfolk is always free.
Participants are allowed to download one ticket per email address through the Smithsonian.com website.
Passes are also available at most museums and sites.
