Hamp­ton – Ju­lia Eliz­a­beth Bryant West was pro­moted to Glory sur­rounded by her fam­ily on Fri­day, Novem­ber 2, 2018. She was born on June 22, 1934, to the late Arthur C. Bryant and Hilda But­ler Bryant. She was a na­tive of Sa­van­nah Ge­or­gia and was a res­i­dent of the Penin­sula for over 40 years.

Mrs. West com­pleted her sec­ondary ed­u­ca­tion in Sa­van­nah Ge­or­gia grad­u­at­ing from Beach High School. She also re­ceived a Cer­tifi­cate of Train­ing as a Cer­ti­fied Nurse’s Aide where she was em­ployed in both mil­i­tary and civil­ian hospi­tals where she nur­tured many chil­dren. She re­tired as a su­per­vi­sor for a con­trac­tor at the Nasa Lan­g­ley Re­search Cen­ter in 1994.

Next to her love for God and fam­ily, was her love for chil­dren and for peo­ple. It was this love that prompted her to “adopt” ev­ery child she met as her own and she never met a “stranger”.

Her fa­vorite hobby and one of her great­est gifts, was mak­ing ceram­ics. Mrs. West re­ceived many awards for beau­ti­ful ce­ramic art­works both in the United states and abroad.

Mrs. West was ac­tive in both the church and the com­mu­nity. She was al­ways avail­able and will­ing to lend a help­ing hand. She was a Dea­coness and for­mer Head Dea­coness in the Lan­g­ley AFB Gospel Ser­vice, a mem­ber of the Lan­g­ley AFB Protes­tant Women of The Chapel, and a mem­ber and of­fi­cer in the Dis­abled Amer­i­can Vet­er­ans (DAV) Aux­il­iary Unit 6, Hamp­ton Vir­ginia.

Mrs. West was pre­ceded in death by her hus­band Julius West, Jr. and great grand­daugh­ter Ana­jia Pa­trice Hall. She leaves to cher­ish her mem­o­ries six sons John D. Bryant of Wil­liams­burg Vir­ginia, Julius West III (Eleanor) of Char­lotte North Carolina, Rev. Dr. Nathaniel D. West (La Nessa) of Rich­mond Vir­ginia, Jonathan L. West (Mar­cia) of Philadel­phia Penn­syl­va­nia, Min­is­ter James West of Hamp­ton Vir­ginia and Min­is­ter Ju­lian E. West (Renetta) of Hamp­ton Vir­ginia; two daugh­ters Min­is­ter Juli­ette Y. Wil­liams (Billy) of Hamp­ton Vir­ginia and De­bra A. West of Hamp­ton Vir­ginia; three broth­ers Charles Bryant (Betty) of Cleve­land Ohio, Earl Bryant (Lon­nie) Cal­i­for­nia and Archie Bryant (Rose) of Sa­van­nah Ge­or­gia and one sis­ter Florine Rox (Wil­lie) of Cleve­land Ohio, 17 grand­chil­dren, 14 great grand­chil­dren and a host of rel­a­tives and friends. View­ing will be held Fri­day, Novem­ber 9, 2018 from 1:00-7:00 pm at Cooke Bros. Fu­neral Chapel. A fu­neral ser­vice will be held 12 Noon, Satur­day, Novem­ber 10, 2018 at Morn­ing Star Bap­tist Church, 2717 N. Ar­mis­tead Av­enue, Hamp­ton, Va. In­ter­ment will fol­low in Hamp­ton Me­mo­rial Gar­dens.
