-

A man was shot and killed Wednesday morning in front of a convenience store in Hampton, according to police.

Dispatchers received a call reporting shots fired in the 2900 block of Shell Road around 9:09 a.m., police spokesman Matt Bond told reporters at the scene. The incident occurred near the intersection of Hampton Roads Avenue and Shell Road.

Officers and medics found an adult man with at least one gunshot wound in the parking lot of Roy's Quick Service II. Bond said that although medics attempted to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim hasn't been positively identified, according to Bond. No other information about circumstances has been released.

A spokesperson for Hampton City Schools said that Armstrong Elementary, AWE Bassette Elementary and Hunter B. Andrews PreK-8 school were placed on modified lockdowns in response to an incident in the neighborhood.

Bassette, which is down Bell Street from the scene, was locked down for a little over an hour.

This isn't the first daytime shooting at the store. In 2013, police said a man was shot outside the store around 1 p.m.

Police haven't released any suspect information. Anyone who knows anything about the shooting is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
