Monarchs’ women extend win streak to 3

Morris’ 24 points, Young’s 17 lift ODU at Louisiana Tech

The Old Dominion women beat Louisiana Tech 70-59 Thursday in Ruston, La., thanks in large part to Victoria Morris and Amari Young.

ODU (12-5, 3-2) has won three consecutiv­e Conference USA games.

Morris finished with 24 points, tying her career high, on 8-of-14 shooting, including 5-of-7 from 3point range. The sophomore guard also tied her career high with four assists.

Young added a career-high 17 points, her fourth straight doublefigu­re scoring game, on 8-of-10 shooting to go along with seven rebounds.

More women

Apprentice 84, Regent 66: Aquazia Jones' 25 points, six assists and five rebounds helped the host Builders end a three-game slide. Alexis Wethington had 20 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for Apprentice (3-11). The Royals fell to 1-9.

No. 4 Louisville 91, Virginia 43: Asia Durr scored 20 points in 23 minutes for the host Cardinals (16-1, 4-1 ACC), who shot a season-best 57 percent from the field. They broke the game open with a 24-3 run to start the second quarter.

The Cavaliers (7-11, 1-4) were led by Dominique Toussaint's nine points.

No. 7 Mississipp­i State 89, No. 15 South Carolina 74: Teaira McCowan had one of the best nights of her career, finishing with 26 points and 24 rebounds for the host Bulldogs (17-1, 5-0 SEC) against the Gamecocks (12-5, 4-1).

South Carolina was led by Te'a Cooper's 27 points.

No. 17 Michigan State 77, No. 9 Maryland 60: Jenna Allen scored 16 points and Nia Clouden added 15 to lift Michigan State (13-4, 3-3 Big Ten) to a home win over the Terrapins (15-2, 4-2), who got 22 points from Brianna Fraser.

The Spartans led almost throughout, racing to a 20-4 advantage in the first quarter. Maryland closed to within three at halftime, but Michigan State took control again in the third in this matchup between the highest-ranked Big Ten teams in this week's AP Top 25.

No. 12 Syracuse 82, Pittsburgh 50: Digna Strautmane scored 22 points, nine in a 28-8 third quarter, as the visiting Orange (15-2, 4-0 ACC) won its ninth straight, beating Pittsburgh.

Maeva Djaldi-Tabdi added 16 points and Tiana Mangakahia 14, also nine in the third quarter, for Syracuse.

Men

Delaware 76, James Madison 69: Ryan Allen and Eric Carter combined to score 55 points for the Blue Hens (13-7, 5-2 Colonial Athletic Associatio­n) in Newark.

Allen scored 29 on 5-of-7 shooting from 3-point range and Carter had 26 on 11-of-14 shooting, with nine rebounds.

The two combined to make 20 of the Blue Hens' 28 field goals as Delaware shot 56 percent in 50 attempts.TheBlueHen­swere8of8 on free throws in the last 25 seconds.

Stuckey Mosley scored 22 for JMU (9-10, 2-4), while Matt Lewis added 17. Darius Banks and Deshon Parker each scored 11.

East Tennessee State 85, VMI 82: Daivien Williamson scored 23 points and Mladen Armus blocked the potential tying shot in the closing seconds in Johnson City, Tenn., as ETSU (16-4, 6-1 Southern Conference) gained its eighth straight win.

Bo Hodges added 17 points and Tray Boyd III had 13 for the Bucs, who their 10 straight by shooting 55 percent.

Bubba Parham had five 3-pointers and 25 points for the Keydets (6-12, 0-6), who have lost five straight. Myles Lewis added 17 points for VMI, which almost overcame a 21-point deficit midway through the first half.

Wednesday:

Louisville 80, Boston College 70: Jordan Nwora scored 18 of his career-high 32 points before the break, then added five points late for the host Cardinals (12-5, 3-1 ACC). The Eagles fell to 9-7, 0-4 despite Jordan Chatman's 21 points and Ky Bowman's 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Clemson 72, Georgia Tech 60: Marcquise Reed had 19 of his career-high 30 points in the opening half as Clemson (11-6, 1-3 ACC) opened a double-digit lead and held on against the Yellow Jackets (10-7, 2-2)at Littlejohn Coliseum.
