SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento rookie Kyle Guy quietly went about his business on this Kings road trip. With a Thursday night off, the former Virginia Cavaliers star joined a few teammates to play threeon-three at a gym in San Antonio.

During games, he sits near the end of the Kings’ bench. He’s ready to make his regularseason NBA debut if the Kings need him. And given the injuries to guards De’Aaron Fox, Bogdan Bogdanovic and Cory Joseph, it was plausible Sacramento coach Luke Walton would look down the bench on this Texas swing and put Guy in the game.

When a reporter in Washington asked Walton two weeks ago if Guy might play against the Wizards, Walton seemed to stifle a laugh before politely answering that it was pretty unlikely. Part of when you get down on bodies, you gotta find ways to get your offense going. I actually had him in the plans for the Portland game (a 127-116 Sacramento loss), but our offense was pretty fine that night.”

That’s what Guy does. He wins people over. He also wins games, which has something to do with the former.

And while he’s humble and quick to laugh in the locker room, he also carries
