W&M’s Trojan takes top honor

William & Mary junior distance-running ace JP Trojan was named the Track Athlete of the Year as the Virginia Sports Informatio­n Directors announced an all-state University Division men’s indoor track and field team for the first time.

W&M’s KJ Cook was one of two first-team throwers, and Norfolk State’s Kai Cole and Jamestown High alumnus Jordan Willis of Virginia were second-team sprinters. Hampton’s Dylan Beard was the second-team hurdler.

Other second-team Tribe picks included Michael Fairbanks (jumps), Warhill High graduate Chris Short (middle distance) and Atlantic Shores graduate Troy Yearwood of Chesapeake (throws). Norfolk State’s Jacob Milton joined Fairbanks among the four second-team jumpers.
