Police identify man killed in Newport News shooting

Newport News police identified the 23-year-old man who died late Friday night after being shot.

Police responded around 11:38 p.m. after hearing gunfire in the 600 block of 25th Street, according to a news release from the Newport News Police Department.

Officers said they found Stephen D. White, of Newport

News, with at least one gunshot wound.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Monday news release from the department.

Friday night, approximat­ely nine minutes after the first shots were fired, officers were then called to a residentia­l area in the

2000 block of Oak Avenue, which is a little more than a mile from the apartment complex where White was found.

Two men with gunshot wounds not considered life-threatenin­g were taken to the hospital, police said.

The shootings are under investigat­ion and as of Monday afternoon, police had not determined whether the shootings were connected.

No suspect informatio­n has been released.
