Over 1,200 new cases, 25 deaths reported Thursday in Virginia
Data released Thursday morning showed 1,229 new cases of the coronavirus were reported overnight, the largest one-day increase since the pandemic began in Virginia, according to the Virginia Department of Health.
It brings the state tally to 34,137 cases.
Of those, 32,428 are confirmed and 1,709 are probable cases.
Accomack County has the most cases in the region, with 709. Here’s how the rest of the region breaks down:

The age group with the highest number of cases is 40- to 49-year-olds, with 6,299 cases of the more than 34,000 total. The next highest age group is 30- to 39year-olds with 6,208 cases, then 50- to 59-year-olds with 5,689 cases, then 20- to 29-year-olds with 5,067 cases. Those between the ages of 60 and 69 account for 3,896 cases, then people older than 80 make up 2,317 cases. Seventy- to 79-yearolds make up 2,056 cases, 10- to -19-year-olds account for 1,591 cases and the age group with the fewest cases are children younger than 9-years-old.
Twenty-five new deaths were reported overnight, bringing the state total to 1,099, according to VDH.
Suffolk has the highest number of deaths for the region, with 25. Virginia Beach has 19, Northampton has 16, James City County has 15, Chesapeake has 13, Accomack and Portsmouth each have 11, Newport News has 10, Norfolk has six,
Williamsburg, Isle of Wight, Hampton and York each have three, Gloucester has one death and Poquoson, Mathews and Middlesex have no reported deaths.
In Virginia, 573 people older than 80 have died, the most in any age group. The rest of the age breakdown: 70-79: 271

No deaths were reported for anyone under the age of 20, according to VDH. Of the 1,099 deaths, 537 were women and 559 were men.
Three deaths did not have a reported gender. So far, 241,957 total tests have been given.
The Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association reported Thursday that there are now 1,491 hospitalizations related to the coronavirus. Of those, 1,001 patients have tested positive for the virus and 490 have COVID-19 symptoms serious enough to require hospitalization but are pending final test results. A total of 4,778 patients have been discharged.
