813 new virus cases, 37 deaths in state on Friday

Data released Friday morning showed 813 new cases of the coronaviru­s were reported overnight, according to the Virginia Department of Health.

It brings the state tally to 34,950 cases. Of those, 33,208 are confirmed and 1,742 are probable cases.

Accomack County has the most cases in the region, with 711 (up 2).

The age group with the highest number of cases is 40- to 49-year-olds, with 6,454 cases of the nearly 35,000 total. The next highest age group is:

30- to 39 (6,373)

50- to 59 (5,805)

20- to 29 (5,231)

Those between the ages of 60 and 69 account for 3,977 cases; people older than 80 make up 2,344 cases; 70-79 (2,074); 10-19 (1,638); the age group with the fewest cases are children younger than 9.

Thirty-seven new deaths were reported overnight, bringing the state total to 1,136, according to VDH.

Suffolk has the highest number of deaths for the region, with 25. It then follows:

In Virginia, 591 people older than 80 have died, the most in any age group. The rest of the age breakdown is:

70-79 (283)

40-49 (23)

30-39 (8)

20-29 (2)

No deaths were reported for anyone under the age of 20, according to VDH.

The number of cases in long-term care facilities is 4,331 and there have been 667 deaths in long-term care facilities, according to the VDH.

Of the 1,136 deaths, 560 were women and 573 were men. Three deaths did not have a reported gender.

So far, 249,940 total tests have been given. The seven-day percent positivity rate total is 13.2%.

The Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Associatio­n reported Friday that there are now 1,459 hospitaliz­ations related to the coronaviru­s.

Of those, 995 patients have tested positive for the virus and 464 have COVID-19 symptoms serious enough to require hospitaliz­ation but are pending final test results.

A total of 4,963 patients have been discharged.
