Fewer than 600 new cases reported

Fewer than 600 new coronaviru­s cases were reported overnight in Virginia, according to data released Thursday morning by the Virginia Department of Health.

The state’s tally is now 63,735, adding 532 cases. Of the total cases, 61,039 are confirmed and 2,696 are probable, meaning they’re symptomati­c and have a known exposure to the illness.

At least 1,816 Virginians have died from the virus, up 30 from Wednesday. At least 1,099 of those deaths are in long-term care facilities, according to the VDH.

The state’s seven-day percentage of positive tests rose from 6.1% to 6.2% Thursday. About 15,602 tests were reported overnight, bringing the state total to 671,560.

The number of people currently hospitaliz­ed is 888, according to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Associatio­n. Of those, 545 have confirmed cases and 343 are awaiting results. So far, 8,496 COVID-19 patients have been discharged. As of Thursday morning, 22% of the state’s ventilator­s are in use.

Virginia Beach has the highest number of cases in the region, with 1,225, up 22 cases from Wednesday and 30 deaths since the pandemic began.

Here are the latest numbers for the rest of the region, compared to Wednesday. The larger number represents the number of cases reported in each locality since the pandemic began.

■ Accomack: 1,042 cases (down 1); 14 deaths (no change)

■ Norfolk: 987 cases (up 53); 11 deaths (up 1)

■ Chesapeake: 959 cases (up 34); 21 deaths (up 1)

■ Newport News: 541 cases (up 6); 10 deaths (no change)

■ Portsmouth: 513 cases (up 16); 18 deaths (up 2)

■ Suffolk: 425 cases (up 5); 36 deaths (up 1)

■ Northampto­n County: 271 cases (up 2); 28 deaths (no change)

■ Hampton: 339 cases (up 3); 5 deaths (no change)

■ James City County: 268 cases (up 3); 15 deaths (no change)

■ Isle of Wight: 181 cases (no change); 8 deaths (no change)

■ York: 116 cases (up 1); 3 deaths (no change)

■ Williamsbu­rg: 61 cases (no change); 6 deaths (no change)

■ Gloucester: 49 cases (no change); 1 death (no change)

■ Poquoson: 19 cases (no change); no deaths

■ Middlesex: 15 cases (no change); no deaths

■ Mathews: 6 cases (no change); no deaths

In Virginia, people older than 80 account for 3,396 cases and 936 deaths. Here’s how the rest of the age groups break down for cases and deaths:

■ 70-79: 3,292 cases, 447 deaths

■ 60-69: 6,320 cases, 258 deaths

■ 50-59: 9,668 cases, 112 deaths

■ 40-49: 11,308 cases, 44 deaths

■ 30-39: 11,763 cases, 13 deaths

■ 20-29: 10,726 cases, 4 deaths

■ 10-19: 4,492 cases, no deaths

■ 0-9: 2,147 cases, no deaths

The VDH did not report ages for 623 cases and two deaths.

■ Virginia Beach: 3.6% (up)

■ Norfolk: 8.9% (up)

■ Chesapeake: 5.8% (up)

■ Portsmouth: 10.4% (up)

■ Eastern Shore: 6.1% (up)

■ Western Tidewater: 4.5% (down)

Since the pandemic began in Virginia, 31,987 women have had cases and 895 women have died and 31,314 men have had cases and 911 men have died. Of the state tally, 434 cases don’t have a reported sex and 10 deaths don’t have a reported sex.
