Virginia records over 650 new cases
More than 650 new coronavirus cases were reported overnight in Virginia, according to data released Friday by the Virginia Department of Health.
The state’s tally is now 64,393, adding 658 new cases. Of the total cases, 61,690 are confirmed and 2,703 are probable, meaning they’re symptomatic and have a known exposure to the illness.
At least 1,845 Virginians have died from the virus, up 29 from Thursday.
The state’s seven-day percentage of positive tests remained at 6.2% Friday. About 14,097 tests were reported overnight, bringing the state total to 685,657.
The number of people currently hospitalized is 818, according to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. Of those, 535 have confirmed cases and 283 are awaiting results. So far, 8,711 COVID-19 patients have been discharged. As of Friday morning, 21% of the state’s ventilators are in use.
Virginia Beach has the highest number of cases in the region, with 1,254, up 29 cases from Thursday and 30 deaths since the pandemic began.

Williamsburg: 61 cases (no change); 6 deaths (no change)
Gloucester: 49 cases (no change); 1 death (no change)

In Virginia, people older than age 80 account for 3,412 cases and 944 deaths. Here’s how the rest of the age groups break down for cases and deaths:

50-59: 9,742 cases, 112 deaths
40-49: 11,398 cases, 44 deaths

The VDH did not report ages for 626 cases and two deaths.

Since the pandemic began in Virginia, 33,338 women have had cases and 909 women have died, while 31,623 men have had cases and 926 men have died. Of the state tally, 432 cases don’t have a reported sex and 10 deaths don’t have a reported sex.
