A construction worker died Wednesday morning after falling at Eastern Virginia Medical School on Colley Avenue, said Norfolk police and spokesmen for EVMS and Sentara Healthcare.

Police received a call around 8:30 a.m. at 315 Colley Avenue near the intersection of West Brambleton Avenue at the site of the school’s new education and administrative building.

Officers responded for an undetermined death, wrote Noel Lipieko, a spokesperson for the department. Officers found the man unresponsive; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives are investigating and police said there are no signs of foul play.

According to a spokesman for EVMS, S.B. Ballard is handling construction.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic death and our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased,” wrote EVMS spokesman Vincent Rhodes.
