COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY U.Va. pays back Wake in ACC opener

Virginia (1-1, 1-0) opened Atlantic Coast Conference action with a 1-0 victory over Wake Forest (1-2, 0-1) Sunday on artificial turf in Charlottesville.

The Cavaliers gained revenge on the Demon Deacons, who had beaten them 2-1 Saturday in a non-conference matchup.Laura Janssen knocked in a pass from Adele Iacobucci with 3:10 remaining, and Taylor Henriksen picked up her first college win. She had three saves, facing 10 shots. All three of those players are sophomores.

U.Va. finished fourth and Wake 21st in last year’s poll.
