GOLF Swafford gains Dominican victory

PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic — Hudson Swafford stopped his slide with a 10-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole, and he finished with an 8-foot par putt to hold on for a one-shot victory in the PGA Tour’s Corales Puntacana Club and Resort Championsh­ip. He finished with a 69 for an 18-under 270 to beat Tyler McCumber.

John Catlin birdied three of his last four holes in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, to close with a 6-under 64 and earn a two-shot victory in the Irish Open, his second in three weeks on the European Tour. Catlin, 29, who played college for New Mexico, will move into the top 100 in the world for the first time. Catlin finished at 10-under 270, while Aaron Rai was the runner-up.
