Broncos to start Rypien at QB

The Denver Broncos named third-stringer Brett Rypien their starting quarterbac­k for Thursday night’s game against the New York Jets.

The nephew of former Washington QB Mark Rypien will make his first career start after taking over for Jeff Driskel on the final drive of a 28-10 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday.

Rypien completed his first eight passes for 53 yards before throwing an intercepti­on in the end zone.

Driskel had started in place of injured No. 1 QB Drew Lock.

The Houston Texans don’t plan to sign free agent safety Earl Thomas after meeting with the three-time All-Pro and conducting a physical, ESPN reported.

Philadelph­ia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert has been placed on injured reserve with a small fracture in his ankle.
