Bad investment Reelect Wilson
The city of Norfolk’s push to build a casino near Harbor Park is the latest in an attempt at misguided economic development. Scope, an arena which cannot feasibly be altered to hold larger audiences; Nauticus, still struggling to define itself; and the cruise terminal, subject to the ebb and flow of the cruise industry, now facing much uncertainty. These were all driven from the top down by city leaders.
Casinos are emblematic of the past, not of the future. It appears to be another swift attempt by inexperienced leadership to get rich quick. The claim this will not cost taxpayers a dime is a fairy tale. City presentations have included budgets for more police, social services and gambling addiction. Why don’t we finally admit we are living in the 21st century and support the local effort to attract innovative high-tech businesses? I am voting no for the casino.

I am a wife, mother and business owner in Virginia Beach. In times of crisis, experience counts. That’s why I’m supporting Councilwoman Rosemary Wilson for reelection to the Virginia Beach City Council. There is so much uncertainty with schools today, and her experience in education, as a former teacher and vice chairwoman of the School Board, is crucial to our children right now.
She also is a leader in job creation and economic development and is doing great work to attract high-tech jobs that are so in demand. And with the undersea superhigh-speed internet cables connecting to Virginia Beach, Wilson is the right person to make sure we attract those companies and jobs.
And safety of our city is so important, and Wilson is endorsed by police and fire heroes who risk their lives to save ours. I hope you’ll join me in voting to reelect Councilwoman Rosemary Wilson.
