William and Mary preview
Coach: Dane Fischer.
Last season: 21-11, 13-5 Colonial Athletic Association.
Fans in stands?: Only a small number of student-athletes’ and coaches’ family and friends will be allowed in Kaplan Arena until further notice. Where to watch/listen: FloHoops. com (subscription video); TuneIn radio; The Tide (92.3FM); virtual season tickets are available at TribeAthletics.com.
Storylines: A disappointing firstgame loss in the CAA tournament aside, Fischer’s first season was a success as the Tribe enjoyed its winningest season in a decade. But, with four starters gone — including 6-10 Nathan Knight (20.7 ppg, 10.5 rpg), the CAA Player of the Year, and 7-0 Andy Van Vliet (13.2 ppg,
8.7 rpg) — Fischer must rebuild with a smaller, less-experienced group. Fischer will employ some four-guard lineups, so defense and 3-point shooting will be important for the Tribe to exceed the preseason forecast of last in the CAA. Luke Loewe, the CAA leader in 3-point shooting a year ago, leads a bevy of capable long-range bombers. Freshmen Jake Milkereit and Yuri Covington could be called on for ball-handling chores, while 6-6 Quinn Blair (4.8 ppg, 2.1 rpg) will be important in the post. December games at ACC schools North Carolina State and Virginia highlight the schedule.
