Holiday fundraisers kick off in Hampton Roads
With the holidays right around the corner and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, fundraisers are popping up all over Hampton Roads to make sure families get the help they need.
There are toy drives, food drives and even holiday card drives to encourage locals during the holiday season.
We’ve compiled a list of local efforts to keep you in the loop.
Today
Norfolk Festevents’ Holiday Food Drive
Time: 2 to 8 p.m. Location: Town Point Park in Norfolk or the Nauticus turnaround (for roadside donations)
Contact: 757-675-1150 Norfolk Festevents is working with the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore to collect food and supplies for families in need.

Brandon Hutchins’ Feed the City Community Dinner
Time: 3 to 5 p.m. Location: BeachHouse 757, 1910 Atlantic Ave., Virginia Beach
Brandon Hutchins is partnering with Beachhouse 757 to feed locals. Masks will be required and meals will be provided in to-go boxes.

The City of Suffolk’s “Stuff the Police Car” Event
Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Location: Walmart at 1200 N. Main St. and 6259 College Drive
Suffolk Police will provide a police vehicle and volunteer officers to collect new and unwrapped toys. The toys will be sent to Toys for Tots. Masks and social distancing are required.

James City County’s “Stuff the Cruiser” Toy Drive
Time: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Location: Target, 4630 Monticello Ave., Williamsburg
Folks are asked to drop off toys and clothing items, such as sports balls, toy cars, dolls, board games, skateboards, roller skates, outdoor chalk, earbuds, socks, sweatshirts, hats and gloves. Donations can also be dropped off at the Law Enforcement Center at 4600 Opportunity Way before Saturday.

Kiwanis Club of Colonial Capital’s Annual Toy Drive
The public can donate money by mailing a check payable to CCWKF at P.O. box 612, Williamsburg, VA 23187-0612. Donors can also visit givebutter.com/ CCWKF-ToyDrive, or text “ToyDrive” to (202) 858-1233.

Freda H. Gordon Hospice & Palliative Care’s Holiday Card Drive
Children can send in original artwork and holiday wishes to patients at the care center. Mail cards by Dec. 16 to Freda H. Gordon Hospice & Palliative Care, 5000 Corporate Woods Drive #500, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.

The Salvation Army’s “Red Kettle Challenge”
The Salvation Army Suffolk Corps & Community Center: They will ring bells at Walmart, Kroger, Big Lots, Food Lion, and Belk until Dec 24. After that date, locals can donate at their office at 400 Bank St., Suffolk, or by mail at P.O. Box 1000 in Suffolk. Donors can also text “SalArmySuffolk” to 51555 or go to tinyurl.com/suffolkredkettle.
“The Benefit Blend” Fundraiser
Location: Selden Market, 208 E. Main St., Norfolk
The Nancy Langhorne Foundation and Norfolk Vessel Craft Coffee are selling a limited edition coffee blend. Proceeds will go to cancer research at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Coffee can be bought at the Selden Market or at www. vesselcraftcoffee.com/ shop-online/xmaseveeve.
