Deacons end long break by holding off D-II foe

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Demon Deacons (3-0), who had gone 33 days without a game, struggled to put away their in-state Division II foe but prevailed behind Daivien Williamson’s 15 points and seven rebounds Thursday.

Wake Forest’s team has been significan­tly affected by the coronaviru­s. Schedule changes: The start time for No. 23 Virginia’s Atlantic Coast Conference home opener against No. 24 Virginia Tech on Saturday in Charlottes­ville was moved from 4 to 2 p.m. The game will be televised on ACC Network.

FARMVILLE — Heru Bligen came off the bench to score 14 points as the Lancers (2-8, 1-3) snapped a five-game slide.

MADISON, Wis. — Micah Potter had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Badgers (9-2, 3-1 Big Ten) past the Gophers (92, 2-2).

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Freshman Hunter Dickinson had 26 points and 11 rebounds, Franz Wagner scored 19 and Michigan stayed unbeaten. The Wolverines (8-0, 3-0 Big Ten) trailed 54-50 with 15 minutes left before Dickinson scored nine points in a 23-5 run. Dickinson went 10 for 11 from the floor.

Donta Scott scored 19 for Maryland (6-3, 1-3).

EUGENE, Ore. — Eugene Omoruyi scored 26 points as Oregon (7-1, 2-0 Pac-12) extended its winning streak at home to 27.

WOMEN Fla. State 73, Va. Tech 63

BLACKSBURG — The Seminoles (4-1, 3-1) hit 21 of 22 free throws and held off the Hokies (6-2, 1-2), who trailed 59-40 after three quarters. Virginia Tech’s Aisha Sheppard led all scorers with 21 points.

ATLANTA — Jada Boyd scored 26 and the Wolfpack (9-0, 4-0 ACC) cruised past the Yellow Jackets (4-2, 2-1). LottaMaj Lahtinen scored a career-high 30 for Georgia Tech, which was outscored 28-12 in the second quarter.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Aliyah Boston, a 6-foot-5 sophomore, had 28 points along with 16 rebounds for the Gamecocks (6-1), who have 13 straight wins over Florida (7-2).

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Sophomore Kai Carter had 26 points and 14 rebounds as the Bulldogs (4-5, 3-1 Big South) defeated the Lancers (3-6, 2-2). Ocean Lakes High alumna Kyla McMakin led the Lancers with 18 points, hitting all seven of her free throws.
