Pitt erases 18-point deficit to hand Syracuse a defeat

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Ithiel Horton scored 14 points, Au’diese Toney made a go-ahead putback with eight seconds left for Pittsburgh’s first lead and the shorthanded Panthers erased an 18-point deficit to beat Syracuse on Wednesday, snapping a seven-game losing streak in the series.
After Toney put Pittsburgh (6-2, 2-1 ACC) ahead, Syracuse (6-2, 1-1) dribbled across midcourt and called a timeout with 5.2 seconds left. But the Orange then turned it over, Xavier Johnson made two free throws for a three-point lead and Alan Griffin’s half-court heave at the buzzer hit the side of the rim.

RICHMOND — Jacob Gilyard scored 22 points and all five Richmond starters reached double figures in a victory over Rhode Island (5-6, 2-1 Atlantic 10).
Grant Golden (17), Blake Francis (15), Nathan Cayo (14) and Tyler Burton (11) also contributed for the Spiders (8-3, 2-1).

AUSTIN, Texas — Andrew Jones scored a career-high 23 points and Texas held off Iowa State to continue its torrid start to the season.
Texas (9-1, 3-0 Big 12) led by as much as 15 early in the second half and appeared to be cruising to an easy win. But Iowa State (2-6, 0-4) kept chipping away and made it tough for Texas to close out the game.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Former Norfolk Academy star David McCormack scored a season-high 20 points to lead five Kansas players in double figures as the Jayhawks beat TCU and matched the Big 12 record by winning their 11th consecutive conference road game.
The Jayhawks (9-2, 3-1 Big 12) matched the league mark they initially set 18 years ago. The win in Fort Worth came only three days after their 25-point loss at home to Texas.

STARKVILLE, Miss. — DJ Stewart scored 24 points and Mississippi State (7-4, 2-1 SEC) overcame a 12-point halftime deficit to roll past Missouri.
Jeremiah Tilmon led Missouri (7-2, 1-2) with 16 points.
