Michael T. Ricciarelli was born Jan. 10, 1977 and died unexpectedly Dec. 9, 2020, while coaching a basketball game.
He is survived by his father, Giacomo Ricciarelli, MD; mother, Patricia Ricciarelli; brother, Mark Ricciarelli; sister-in -law, Maria Ricciarelli; nieces, Marley and Ezra Ricciarelli. Michael's elementary education began at Montessori School, Trinity Lutheran, Our Lady of Mt Carmel in Newport News, Walsingham Academy( Williamsburg) and he graduated High school from Massanutten Military Academy, Woodstock, VA. He earned his BA in Sociology from Ithaca College and earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology at ODU in Norfolk, VA. Michael completed 6 courses out of 10 needed for MS in Engineering at UVA in Charlottesville, VA. He had an outstanding academic record. His goal was to get his PhD. And be a part of the Construction Management Program at UVA.
Michael Ricciarelli worked in many careers throughout his life from working as a teacher in the alternative school in Norfolk to Security Solutions to Roofing, at first as an estimator then project manager to various project manager positions in construction until he found the career that he loved through Hourigan Construction Company(Mark Hourigan ,CEO) in Richmond as Project and Site Manager with a promotion to Project Executive. He was Project Executive on the new VCU extension --The Adult Outpatient Pavillion (as one example), a project of excellent teamwork of which he was very proud. On the side ,he was coaching high school basketball at Midlothian High school, Midlothian, VA.
Michael had a larger-than-life personality who had a kind and gentle soul. We are looking forward to be able to celebrate the life of Michael T. Ricciarelli, a son, brother, cousin, nephew, uncle, friend, a stepdad, the caped crusader for many , the sports enthusiast , the "gentle giant." He is loved and missed by many.
Because of Covid -19, his memorial and celebration of life is TBA.
It is known that he loved his dog, who was a rescue dog and seems fitting for those who wish to make donations in remembrance of Michael to make them to the SPCA or animal rescue agencies.
