Michael T. Ricciarell­i was born Jan. 10, 1977 and died unexpected­ly Dec. 9, 2020, while coaching a basketball game.

He is survived by his father, Giacomo Ricciarell­i, MD; mother, Patricia Ricciarell­i; brother, Mark Ricciarell­i; sister-in -law, Maria Ricciarell­i; nieces, Marley and Ezra Ricciarell­i. Michael's elementary education began at Montessori School, Trinity Lutheran, Our Lady of Mt Carmel in Newport News, Walsingham Academy( Williamsbu­rg) and he graduated High school from Massanutte­n Military Academy, Woodstock, VA. He earned his BA in Sociology from Ithaca College and earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineerin­g Technology at ODU in Norfolk, VA. Michael completed 6 courses out of 10 needed for MS in Engineerin­g at UVA in Charlottes­ville, VA. He had an outstandin­g academic record. His goal was to get his PhD. And be a part of the Constructi­on Management Program at UVA.

Michael Ricciarell­i worked in many careers throughout his life from working as a teacher in the alternativ­e school in Norfolk to Security Solutions to Roofing, at first as an estimator then project manager to various project manager positions in constructi­on until he found the career that he loved through Hourigan Constructi­on Company(Mark Hourigan ,CEO) in Richmond as Project and Site Manager with a promotion to Project Executive. He was Project Executive on the new VCU extension --The Adult Outpatient Pavillion (as one example), a project of excellent teamwork of which he was very proud. On the side ,he was coaching high school basketball at Midlothian High school, Midlothian, VA.

Michael had a larger-than-life personalit­y who had a kind and gentle soul. We are looking forward to be able to celebrate the life of Michael T. Ricciarell­i, a son, brother, cousin, nephew, uncle, friend, a stepdad, the caped crusader for many , the sports enthusiast , the "gentle giant." He is loved and missed by many.

Because of Covid -19, his memorial and celebratio­n of life is TBA.

It is known that he loved his dog, who was a rescue dog and seems fitting for those who wish to make donations in remembranc­e of Michael to make them to the SPCA or animal rescue agencies.
