MEN

No. 16 Alabama 91, No. 3 Gonzaga 82: Jaden Shackelford scored 20 of his 28 points in the first half, Jahvon Quinerly and JD Davison both hit key 3-pointers, and Alabama held off Gonzaga’s big secondhalf rally in Seattle.

Coupled with the football Crimson Tide’s victory over No. 1 Georgia in the Southeastern Conference championship game, it made Alabama the first school to beat Associated Press top-five teams in football and men’s basketball on the same day. The Tide (7-1) made 10 of its 13 3-pointers in the first half. Drew Timme led Gonzaga (7-2) with 23 points.

Shackelford made 10 of 16 shots, and all six of his 3-pointers came in the first half. Davison finished with 20 points off the bench and Quinerly added 17.

It was another sputtering offensive performance for the Zags, who lost to Duke in Las Vegas and looked lethargic in a win over Tarleton State last week.

No. 19 Iowa State 64, Creighton 58: Caleb Grill scored a season-high 16 points, Izaiah Brockington had all 12 of his points in the second half, and the Hawkeyes (8-0) beat the Bluejays (7-2) in Omaha, Nebraska.

No. 20 Southern California 63, Washington State 61: Chevez Goodwin sank a layup and a free throw with 16 seconds left to lift the Trojans (8-0, 2-0 Pac-12) over the Cougars (6-2, 1-1) in Pullman, Washington. Michael Flowers scored 13 points to lead WSU, but Noah Williams missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have given the Cougars the win.

No. 22 Michigan State 81, Toledo 68: Max Christie had 14 points and Gabe Brown scored 12 for the host Spartans (7-2), who led by as many as 26 points in the first half. The Rockets (6-2) were led by Ryan Rollins, who had 21 points.

WOMEN

The Trojans (2-4) went ahead 26-9 in the first quarter and breezed past the Royals (1-3) in Ettrick.

For Regent, Desiree Cross had 14 points, four assists and four steals, while Kempsville High alumna Brooke Glisson had 13 points and nine rebounds.

Bryant & Stratton 51, Southwest Virginia Community College 36: The Bobcats improved to 5-1 with an impressive defensive performance against the Flying Eagles (5-2) in Richlands.
