More undrafted players with local and state connections continue to sign with NFL teams, hoping to eventually stick.

Former Norfolk State star De’Shaan Dixon signed as a free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the defensive lineman announced.

Dixon, a 6-foot-5, 260-pounder from Western Branch High in Chesapeake, racked up 54 tackles and recorded a MEAC-high 12.5 tackles for loss and nine sacks in his senior season with the Spartans, earning first-team all-conference honors. He was one of four players to represent NSU at the 2022 HBCU Legacy Bowl in New Orleans.

As a junior, Dixon made the All-MEAC third team. He totaled 61 tackles, seven for loss, 4.5 sacks and seven quarterback hurries.

Dixon became the first player from NSU to sign with an NFL team since safety Bobby Price in 2020. Price recently completed his second year with the Detroit Lions.

Cox High graduate Jake Herslow signed with the Seattle Seahawks. He played three years for Old Dominion before transferring and breaking out with a notable senior season as wide receiver for the Houston Cougars.

With ODU from 2017-19, Herslow played in 18 games and had 11 catches for 109 yards, as well as 15 tackles and a fumble recovery. In his one season for Houston, the 6-foot, 176-pounder had 36 catches for 480 yards in 14 games, as well as two tackles.

Former James Madison teammates Mike Greene and Liam Fornadel earned invitations to rookie minicamps after being part of four Colonial Athletic Association championships, five FCS playoff appearances and two trips to the national championship game.

Minicamp is an opportunity for players to take part in team camps with the hope of signing a contract to attend preseason camp in the fall.

Greene, a defensive tackle, will have opportunities with the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fornadel, an offensive

tackle, received an invitation from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Greene, from Highland Springs High, appeared in 57 games, including 48 starts on the defensive line. He earned firstteam All-America laurels in his final two seasons.

Richmond linebacker Tyler Dressler was invited to minicamps with Pittsburgh and the New York Jets.

In five years, Dressler played in 43 games, starting 25, and was a three-time first-team All-CAA pick. The Covington native finished his with 249 tackles, including 27.5 for loss and 7.5 sacks. He also added four interceptions in his career.
