Menchville leaps to top of boys soccer rankings
Topsy-turvy season continues with new No. 1
One of the most unpredictable boys soccer seasons in recent memory continued last week.
Tabb knocked off top-ranked Jamestown to pave the way for Menchville to take over as the fourth No. 1 team this year (following Cox, Jamestown and Grafton).
Oscar Smith recorded its best win in quite some time with a 4-0 stunner over then-unbeaten Great Bridge. The Tigers followed up with a draw against Hickory to send them into the rankings.
Landstown also joins the rankings as the Eagles still have no losses in seven games. They hold a 2-1 win overOscarSmithastheirbestvictory.
Here’s the new 757Teamz Top 15 in boys soccer. Like the other Top 15s, they are based on results reported to The Virginian-Pilot and Daily Press before Monday’s games. season winds down, especially in the Peninsula District, where four teams are within one game of the top spot.
Menchville and Gloucester split last week, and the Monarchs are 11-2 and Dukes are 12-2 in the district.
Woodside, which has won five in a row, is 12-2. But Warwick can control the district’s fate as the Raiders play both Gloucester and Menchville twice.
Ocean Lakes is still the top team in Hampton Roads.
Grassfield, which has won six in a row, moved up to No. 2. First Colonial dropped one spot after the Patriots tied Bayside. Nansemond River moved up one spot with a win over then-No. 3 Western Branch.
And Walsingham Academy made the biggest jump, rising three spots to No. 11 after beating previous No. 7 Greenbrier Christian.
The Trojans are the only TCIS team to beat both Cape Henry and Greenbrier Christian this season.
