NSU prevails in 10th

Norfolk State rallied for a run in the bottom of the ninth inning and got a timely hit by Cam Mazell in the 10th for a 6-5 walk-off victory over Binghamton, giving the Spartans (2-8) one victory in the threegame series.

Brandon Cleveland batted 4 for 5, and he scored on Chance Pollard’s two-out infield single in the ninth. Mazell’s hit to left field scored pinch runner Keshaun Nelson with the winning run.

■ Saturday, Binghamton won 6-3 and 7-0 in a doublehead­er. The Bearcats’ three-run ninth inning was decisive in the opener, and a five-run third was critical in Game 2, which Gabe Driscoll won by pitching 5 ⅔ innings.

■ Chris Cannizzaro had three hits and two RBIs as No. 11 Virginia Tech (9-2) beat Charlotte 12-4 to finish a three-game sweep in Blacksburg.

■ Rowan (3-0), ranked eighth in Division III, finished a three-game sweep at Virginia Wesleyan with a 9-5 victory. Jake Ness led the Marlins (1-10) with two hits and three runs, and Michael Burton Jr. was 2 for 2 with two RBIs.

■ Immaculata of Pennsylvan­ia defeated Christophe­r Newport (11-4), the No. 18 team in Division III, 12-6 in Fayettevil­le, North Carolina. CNU freshman Jackson Baird struck out nine in five innings, but Immaculata scored eight runs off relievers in the sixth to erase CNU’s 5-1 lead.

■ Saturday, Apprentice split two games at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, beating Penn State Du Bois 9-2 but losing 7-2 to Bryant & Stratton of Cleveland. That ended a four-game win streak by the Builders (11-4).

Against Du Bois, Nick Redman struck out 10 as he pitched a seven-inning four-hitter.
