W&M rolls on vs. George Mason

Nate Goranson had a double and four RBIs and four of his teammates drove in two runs apiece as William & Mary defeated George Mason 16-10 in a college baseball game Tuesday at Spuhler Field in Fairfax.

The Tribe (12-10) reached double digits in runs for the seventh time this season.

Lucas Carmichael, Corey Adams, Luke Smith and Luca Danos each had two RBIs for W&M, while Ben Williamson went 2 for 5 with three runs and Tank Yaghoubi scored four runs.

The Tribe, 3-3 in the CAA, will return to conference play by hosting Monmouth in a three-game series beginning at 6 p.m. Friday.

Christophe­r Newport 4, Southern Virginia 0: Jack Braley pitched a five-hitter with six strikeouts to help Christophe­r Newport blank Southern Virginia in Newport News.

Braley (2-0) allowed only one walk in nine innings.

Jake Benedict gave CNU (19-6) all the offense it would need with an RBI single in the first inning. Josh Reinhold had a run-scoring single in the fifth and Daniel Elliott added a two-run single in the sixth.

Benedict and Elliott finished with two hits apiece.

CNU will visit North Carolina Wesleyan at 6 p.m. today. No. 2 Salisbury 13, Virginia Wesleyan 2: Kavi Caster went 4 for 5 with a homer and four RBIs, Jacob Ference hit two homers and had three RBIs and Danny Sheeler went 4 for 4 with a homer and two RBIs to lead Salisbury to a home rout of Virginia Wesleyan.

The Sea Gulls (14-3) scored eight runs in the second inning and never looked back. Caster’s three-run homer, Sheeler’s solo shot and Ference’s two-run homer turned a 3-0 lead into a 9-0 advantage.

Connor Hall and Chase James drove in the runs for the Marlins (3-13-1), both in the sixth inning. VWU finished with six hits.

The Marlins will visit No. 12 Lynchburg at 3 p.m. today.
