Mrs. Arline S. Quarles, 91, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Harbor Chase in Rock Hill. A Celebratio­n of Life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at the Peninsula Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News, VA. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 - 2:00 pm.

Born in Green Springs, VA, Mrs. Quarles was the daughter of the late Edward Stokes and the late Jennie Melton Stokes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Wilson Quarles; and six siblings, Charles Edward Stokes, Annie Mae Deane, James Alvin Stokes, Helen Frances Wolford, Lewis Franklin Stokes and Raymond Talbert Stokes. She was a bookkeeper for Jack's Auto Supply, the business she owned with her husband. She was very creative and could do just about anything. She crocheted mats for homeless with her women's group at her church and was very active in church activities. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Newport News, VA.

Surviving are her daughters, Charleen Lynn Ayers of Knoxville, TN, and Lorrie Gale (C.W.) Cobb of York, SC; her son, Denis Keith (Diane) Quarles of Bel Air, MD; eight grandchild­ren, Ashley Lynn Ayers of Kalispell, MT, Ryan Patrick (Sommer) Ayers of Kalispell, MT, Kyle Logan Ayers of Knoxville, TN, Christophe­r Stephen (Cherell) Cobb of Chester, SC, Rachel Liane (Blake) Gilfillan of York, SC, Mallory Danielle (Eric) Cobb of York, SC, Erin Leigh Quarles of Plantation, FL, and Philip Trent Quarles of Boulder, CO; and five greatgrand­children, Piper Dawn Ayers of Kalispell, MT, Kayla Marie Moore of Knoxville, TN, Macyn Christophe­r McDaniel of York, SC, James Blakely Gilfillan, Jr. of York, SC and Logan Phoenix Cobb of Chester, SC.
