Dr. Wilson Sheaffer Hawk, Jr.

Dr. Wilson Sheaffer Hawk, Jr., 84, was born in Newport News, VA and on April 11, 2023, he went peacefully into the arms of His Lord and Savior. Wilson graduated from Newport News High School in 1956, the College of William and Mary in 1960, the Medical College of VA in 1964, and Tufts University in 1966. Wilson specialize­d in Periodonto­logy and opened his private practice, becoming the first periodonti­st on the Virginia Peninsula.

He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Smith Hawk, on August 26, 1961, and started their family shortly after. Wilson and Barbara had eight children, filling their house with love, joy, and laughter. The family will always remember Wilson cheering for them at sporting events, family camper adventures, Disney World vacations, sunsets on the water and Chickahomi­ny boat rides. Wilson loved being involved in the community especially New Covenant Church and Hampton Christian High School. He was one of the first school board members and received the Sheldon Sinclair Award for his and Barbara's dedication to the school.

Wilson loved the Lord and was passionate about teaching the Bible to his children, patients, and friends. He enjoyed many overseas dental mission trips as well as NYC trips where he shared the love of Jesus Christ.

Wilson was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Hawk; daughter, Laura Harkness; parents, Wilson & Gertrude Hawk Sr and sister, Trudy Hawk. Wilson leaves behind his children, Lisa (Andy) Tatem, Cindi (Ray) Lanier, Wilson Sheaffer (Wende) Hawk, lll, Jennifer (Allen) Joyner, Bekah (Nick) Dupree, Rachel (Paul) Hill, Sharon (Scott) Harwell, son-in-law Jim Harkness, 15 grandkids, 4 great-grandkids and companion Pauline Schlim. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Weymouth Funeral Home. The family will receive guests immediatel­y following the service.
